Brazil expands support and awareness for multiple sclerosis

Various initiatives in Brazil are focusing on improving support and awareness for individuals living with multiple sclerosis. In Belém, the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) is providing specialized occupational therapy through an extension project. This initiative offers individualized interventions, including neurological, physical, and cognitive rehabilitation, as well as the use of assistive technologies to help patients manage daily tasks.

In Belo Horizonte, the Casa da Esclerose Múltipla (EM) is hosting an interactive event at Boulevard Shopping. Organized by Merck in partnership with AMAPEM, the project uses sensory immersion to simulate the daily challenges faced by patients, such as blurred vision, tremors, fatigue, and loss of coordination. The goal is to demystify the autoimmune disease, which affects approximately 40,000 people in Brazil, and encourage empathy and early diagnosis.
