Brazil explores dejudicialization to manage 80 million pending legal cases

Legal experts and high-ranking ministers from the Supreme Federal Court (STF), the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), and the Superior Labor Court (TST) are engaging in discussions regarding ‘desjudicialização’ (dejudicialization) to address the massive backlog of legal cases in Brazil.

With approximately 80 million processes currently pending in the Brazilian judicial system, there is increasing pressure to implement procedural filters and extrajudicial solutions, such as mediation, before lawsuits are officially filed. To support this movement, a specialized postgraduate program focusing on dejudicialization, mediation, and extrajudicial action has been launched, featuring participation from prominent jurists including Gilmar Mendes, Kássio Nunes Marques, Luiz Fux, and Flávio Dino.
