Brazil explores potential of border tourism

Brazil is exploring the potential of border tourism, shifting the perception of border regions from mere transit points to primary travel destinations. The initiative focuses on the unique gastronomy, hybrid cultures, nature, and heritage found in these territories.

The Ministry of Tourism, in technical cooperation with UNESCO, is conducting diagnostics of Brazilian border regions. This study aims to identify local potential, available infrastructure, mobility challenges, and opportunities to expand tourism activities.

While Brazil possesses approximately 16,900 kilometers of land borders and hundreds of municipalities within these zones, much of the national tourism flow remains concentrated in coastal areas and major capitals. Strengthening border tourism could stimulate local economies and promote shared tourist routes between neighboring South American cities.
