Brazil exports to EU rise 30% under Mercosur agreement
Brazilian exports to the European Union have increased by approximately 30% since the provisional implementation of the Mercosur-EU trade agreement began on May 1, 2026. Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services Márcio Elias Rosa reported that the agreement has driven a significant expansion in trade, with bilateral exchange between the two blocs increasing by more than $6 billion since the treaty took effect.
Between January and September 2026, Brazilian exports to the EU totaled $44.17 billion, representing a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Beyond the EU agreement, Brazil has successfully opened 700 international markets for its agricultural products across 99 destinations since 2023 following sanitary authorizations.
The Mercosur-EU agreement follows nearly 27 years of negotiations. The two blocs represent a combined market of approximately 720 million people with a total GDP exceeding $22 trillion. While the growth is prominent in agribusiness, officials noted that overall Brazilian foreign trade has grown by an average of 10.5% despite global geopolitical tensions and rising trade barriers.
