Brazil faces severe cold snap in Rio Grande do Sul and hailstorm in Minas Gerais

A polar air mass is expected to move into Rio Grande do Sul early next week, bringing temperatures below zero. Forecasts from Metsul Meteorologia indicate minima of –2 °C to –5 °C in municipalities such as Pinheiro Machado and the Serra do Sudeste, with possible frost across the interior. Porto Alegre and surrounding areas will see lows of 6‑7 °C between Monday and Wednesday.

On June 12, a strong hailstorm struck Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, accompanied by winds up to 67 km/h. Rainfall peaked at 62.8 mm in Jardim Holanda, and large hail damaged roofs, trees, and a sports pavilion. The storm caused power outages across several neighborhoods, flooding of streets, and collapse of a temporary event stage, but no injuries were reported.
