Brazil fan sentenced for pitch invasion with child

A man has been sentenced for crimes committed during a pitch invasion at the Beira-Rio stadium in Porto Alegre in March 2023. The incident occurred following a Campeonato Gaúcho semifinal match where Caxias defeated Internacional in a penalty shootout.

Judge Jocelaine Teixeira of the Fan and Large Events Court sentenced the individual to 10 months and 15 days of detention. This sentence will be replaced by community service, performed at a rate of one hour per day. The man was convicted of exposing the life or health of another person and subjecting a child to embarrassment.

Evidence presented during the trial, including video footage and identification from Internacional, showed the man carrying his three-year-old daughter while participating in the ensuing violence. The judge noted that the defendant actively moved toward the center of the conflict and physically assaulted a Caxias player, creating a concrete risk to the child in his arms.
