Brazil Federal Police investigate robotics contract fraud in Alagoas

The Brazilian Federal Police (PF), supported by the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU), launched Operation Hefesto to dismantle a criminal organization suspected of bidding fraud and money laundering in Alagoas. The investigation targets a scheme operating between 2019 and 2022 that benefited a single supplier of robotics equipment across 43 municipalities.

Using federal funds from the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE), the group allegedly manipulated bidding processes by inserting restrictive technical specifications to prevent competition. Initial analyses by the CGU indicate an effective loss of R$ 8.1 million to the public treasury, with a potential risk of overpricing estimated at R$ 19.8 million.

As part of the operation, authorities executed 27 search and seizure warrants and two temporary arrest warrants. The Federal Court has ordered the seizure and freezing of assets belonging to the suspects totaling R$ 8.1 million and the immediate suspension of all active contracts between the suspected supplier and the involved municipalities.
