Rio de Janeiro police operation targets illegal arms trade and data leaks

The Federal Police and the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro have launched Operation Magen to dismantle a criminal organization involved in the illegal sale of restricted weapons, money laundering, and the leaking of sensitive security data. The group allegedly supplied high-caliber weapons, including ten AR-15 rifles, directly to the Terceiro Comando Puro (TCP) faction, which operates in the Complexo de Israel.

Authorities have executed seven preventive arrest warrants and 18 search and seizure warrants across several locations, including Rio de Janeiro, Nova Iguaçu, and Angra dos Reis. The suspects include an active military police officer, a civil police officer, former police officers, and a former official from the Rio de Janeiro Legislative Assembly (Alerj).

Investigations reveal that the group used functional access to restricted public systems to leak information regarding arrest warrants, vehicle registrations, and ongoing police operations to criminal leaders. This allowed the faction to evade law enforcement. The criminal scheme is estimated to have moved over R$ 100 million over a four-year period. Several individuals remain at large, including TCP leader Álvaro Malaquias Santa Rosa, known as Peixão.
