Brazil field hospital provides 1,200+ treatments in Venezuela's La Guaira after earthquakes
Brazil deployed a field hospital in La Guaira, Venezuela, following the June 24 earthquakes that struck the region. Operated by the Brazilian Navy, the facility has treated over 1,200 patients in its first ten days, delivering consultations, surgeries and laboratory tests. The unit includes an advanced trauma centre, intensive‑care capacity and can handle up to 200 patients daily. It is staffed by 99 Brazilian military health personnel and more than 80 specialists from the United Nations International Search and Rescue Force, alongside civil‑defence technicians, telecom experts, military firefighters and canine teams.
In addition to medical services, Brazil sent 100 water‑purification units capable of producing 5,000 litres of potable water each day, 60 tonnes of medical supplies and coordinated the donation of another 150 tonnes of food, hygiene products and health items from private companies. The hospital supports patients in temporary camps and bolsters the Venezuelan health system while reconstruction efforts continue. Several other Latin American countries have also contributed hospitals, staff and supplies to aid the recovery.
