Brazil health sector hit with fine for data withholding and mask fraud convictions

In Cuiabá, the Hospital Santa Rosa was fined R$ 22,826.67 by the local Procon after it failed to provide requested data on patient admissions, discharges and diagnostic services during a consumer‑protection investigation. The penalty was issued for non‑compliance with a subpoena, not for proven delays in patient care.

Separately, a court in Mato Grosso do Sul sentenced four businessmen, including Emerson Ludwig, for supplying irregular N95/PFF2 masks to the state government during the COVID‑19 pandemic. The conviction includes restitution of nearly R$ 600,000, civil fines exceeding R$ 1.7 million and bans on public contracts for ten years. The masks were never used in hospitals.
