Brazil authorities address infrastructure risks and environmental crimes
The Public Ministry of Mato Grosso (MPMT) has filed a civil action to suspend operations at the Coxipó Bus Station in Cuiabá due to significant structural risks. Technical reports identified issues including electrical and hydraulic failures, inadequate fire prevention systems, and poor accessibility. The prosecution is seeking an immediate suspension of passenger services until safety standards are met.
Separately, the MPMT is investigating the installation of a new access portal at the Sesc Salgadeira complex in Chapada dos Guimarães. Authorities are evaluating whether the structure compromises the natural landscape and adheres to the management plan of the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park.
Environmental enforcement remains a major focus across Brazil. In Acre, the Institute of Environment (Imac) has intensified inspections in the Vale do Juruá to combat illegal deforestation and fires during the dry season. In União do Sul, police identified illegal clearing of over 1,200 hectares, resulting in R$ 7.2 million in fines. Additionally, authorities in Nossa Senhora do Livramento flagged illegal Cerrado vegetation removal. In Tocantins, the judiciary has ordered utility providers and local government to address hazardous loose wiring in Gurupi.
