Multiple fires sweep Brazil, prompting emergency response and arrests

A forest fire in the Serra do Vulcão area of Nova Iguaçu (RJ) was contained by volunteer brigades, while a fire near the Policlínica in Pedra 90, Cuiabá (MT) threatened a health‑care complex but caused no injuries. Residential fires in Icoaraci (Belém, PA) and in Ivaiporã (PR) were swiftly extinguished by local fire services; the Icoaraci blaze was linked to a short‑circuit, and the Ivaiporã incident caused only material loss. In Porto Velho, a recycling‑cooperative fire destroyed up to 170 tons of material, and in Brasilândia (MS) a house fire, suspected to be intentional, was fought by a regional fire battalion. Other events included a silo fire at a wood‑products plant in Indaial (SC) and a fire at an Águas do Rio depot in Queimados (RJ). Authorities in each case conducted investigations, with arrests made in several arson cases and damage assessments underway, but no fatalities were reported.
