Brazil fish wholesale prices pressured by low demand and cold weather

Wholesale fish prices in Brazil are facing downward pressure due to seasonal factors. Lower temperatures in the South and Southeast regions, combined with a seasonal slowdown in August sales, have reduced demand for tilapia across monitored regions. This decreased interest from meatpacking plants has led to a generalized drop in fish prices.

According to data from CEAGESP, the average wholesale price for 1 kg of tilapia is R$ 12.29, while 1 kg of tambaqui is priced at R$ 13.77. The industry is looking toward the ‘Semana do Pescado’ (Fish Week), an initiative by the Ministry of Fishing and Aquaculture running until September 15, to stimulate national consumption and clear wholesale stocks.

Edipo Araujo, the Minister of Fishing and Aquaculture, emphasized the importance of the campaign, stating that Brazilian fish should be a staple on national tables due to its high nutritional quality.
