Brazil fleet operators use AI dashcams to curb accidents
Artificial intelligence applied to video capture is reshaping fleet management in Brazil. Intelligent dashcams equipped with edge‑computing analyse driver behaviour in real time, detecting fatigue, distraction or phone use within milliseconds and issuing immediate alerts to the driver. The technology shifts vehicle monitoring from passive location tracking to proactive accident prevention.
Human error is a major cause of road crashes; the Federal Highway Police reports that driver distraction accounted for 42% of incidents on federal highways in 2024, and overall the human factor is responsible for more than half of all accidents. Ikonn CEO André Luiz Ota says that the robustness of a data architecture determines whether such AI‑driven operations can scale without performance loss. Many existing tracking platforms were built on legacy, monolithic systems that struggle with the high data density required by 5G and IoT, leading to communication bottlene‑cks when trying to handle video streams from hundreds of thousands of vehicles.
