Central Bank of Brazil updates Pix rules and launches wage indicators

The Central Bank of Brazil (BC) has introduced several regulatory updates affecting the national payment system and economic monitoring. Through Resolution BCB 587, the BC updated Pix regulations to enhance security and functionality. Key changes include the introduction of hybrid billing, which combines barcodes and Pix QR codes in a single document, with automatic cancellation mechanisms to prevent duplicate payments. Additionally, starting July 1, 2027, Pix Automático will be permitted for use in salary accounts for authorized recurring payments.

To improve economic oversight, the Central Bank will begin monthly publications of indicators tracking wage adjustments negotiated in collective labor agreements. Using data from the Ministry of Labor and Employment’s Mediador system, these statistics will detail nominal and real wage adjustments (adjusted for the INPC inflation index) to help monitor the relationship between labor market conditions and inflation.

Separately, the latest Focus Bulletin reveals that financial market analysts have raised their median projection for the IPCA inflation in 2026 to 5.01%, up from 4.99%. Projections for 2027 and 2028 stand at 4.30% and 3.80%, respectively. Economic growth forecasts (GDP) for 2026 and 2027 have also seen slight downward revisions.
