Brazil food delivery sector sees burger order surge and Uber stake rise

A 99Food study found that Brazilian users of the platform ordered more than a thousand tonnes of burgers between January and May 2026, with São Paulo accounting for 65 % of the total volume and leading the rankings, followed by Rio de Janeiro and Goiânia. Orders peaked on weekend evenings, especially Saturday dinner, and about 60 % of requests were made at night, with a notable increase after midnight.

Meanwhile, Uber increased its voting rights in Delivery Hero to 36.8 % after an acquisition offer, strengthening its position in the country's online food‑delivery market.

Both developments highlight the growing importance of the food‑delivery sector in Brazil, driven by strong consumer demand and strategic corporate investments.
