Brazil forest production hits record R$ 47.9 billion in 2025

Brazil's forest production reached a record R$ 47.9 billion in 2025, marking a 6.7% increase from the previous year, according to IBGE data. This growth was driven primarily by silviculture, which rose 8.6% to reach R$ 41 billion. Planted forests now account for 85.6% of total production, largely due to eucalyptus cultivation for the cellulose industry, which has helped Brazil become the world's largest producer and exporter of cellulose.

In contrast to the economic growth in forest production, a report by The Nature Conservancy, WWF, and the Paulson Institute highlights a growing global biodiversity financing gap. The annual deficit for biodiversity protection has nearly doubled since 2020, reaching an estimated US$ 1.317 trillion. The report suggests that for every dollar invested in nature protection, US$ 30 are directed toward activities harmful to the environment, emphasizing the need for subsidy reform and improved capital flows to attract conservation investment.
