Brazil forms committee to oversee portable tuberculosis test

The Brazilian federal government issued a decree on 28 July 2026 establishing the Technical Committee of Experts (CTE). The eight‑member advisory body will supervise the Technological Order (ETEC) that aims to develop a portable molecular diagnostic system for tuberculosis. Its responsibilities include issuing opinions, monitoring the project's execution, evaluating results, and providing technical‑financial reports. Members must declare no conflicts of interest, sign confidentiality agreements, and will serve without remuneration.

The committee will meet regularly, preferably by videoconference every two months, with a term of 24 months linked to the contract’s duration. It will support the Ministry of Health in selecting suppliers, assessing technical and financial aspects, and ensuring the tool becomes an efficient, affordable solution for TB control across Brazil.
