Brazil Funds New Pediatric Hospitals in Paraná and Pushes Expansion of Cancer Institute in Pernambuco
The state legislature in Paraná allocated R$40 million from its savings to build two pediatric hospitals in Curitiba: the HCzinho Institute of Pediatrics at the Hospital de Clínicas of UFPR and the Hospital Pequeno Príncipe in the northern region. The funding also supports continuous neurological monitoring for high‑risk newborns at the Regional Hospital of Southwest in Francisco Beltrão and will be extended to hospitals in Campo Largo and Santo Antônio da Platina.
In Pernambuco, federal deputy Eduardo da Fonte and Caruaru councilor Anderson Correia urged the conversion of the Instituto do Câncer Infantil do Agreste (ICIA) into a full‑service Hospital Infantil do Agreste. They sent formal requests to Governor Raquel Lyra and the state health secretariat, seeking priority accreditation so the facility can broaden its services beyond pediatric oncology for children and adolescents in the state’s interior.
Both initiatives aim to strengthen child health care delivery in their respective regions.
