Brazil gears up for 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup with murals and fan celebrations
A year before the FIFA Women's World Cup kicks off in Brazil on 24 June 2027, cities across the country are marking the countdown with public art and events. In São Paulo, visual artist Aline Bispo unveiled a mural on Rua Mário de Alencar that joins similar works in Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre, celebrating female footballers and the tournament’s cultural impact.
In Rio de Janeiro, the municipal government, state authorities and FIFA illuminated landmarks—including the Maracanã, Christ the Redeemer and the Arcos da Lapa—in green and yellow, and painted a commemorative mural near the stadium. A Fan Fest at Copacabana featured ex‑players from Brazil’s pioneering women’s squads, who played games with the public and promoted the “Rio: Capital do Futebol Feminino” program that offers free football training for girls aged 7‑15. The combined initiatives aim to build enthusiasm, inspire the next generation of athletes, and leave a lasting legacy beyond the competition itself.
