Brazil government authorizes 55 new staff for the National Mining Agency

The Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI) issued three portarias published in the Official Gazette on 10‑11 July, authorising the appointment of 85 candidates who passed recent public‑service exams. The appointments cover the Ministry of Planning and Budget, the National Nuclear Energy Commission and the National Mining Agency (ANM). For the ANM, the decree allows the hiring of 45 specialists in mineral resources and 10 administrative analysts, bringing the total to 55 new civil servants.

The appointments are conditional on the existence of vacant positions and on the agency demonstrating sufficient budgetary resources. The staffing boost comes as the ANM faces a R$ 22.6 million cut to its budget, which has raised concerns about its capacity to oversee mining operations, dam safety and the emerging regulatory framework for critical and strategic minerals. The reinforcement coincides with the Senate’s debate on a critical‑minerals bill that would expand the agency’s responsibilities in the supply chain for batteries, defense and clean‑energy technologies.
