Senate President Alcolumbre advances 6x1 work schedule amendment
Senate President Davi Alcolumbre has signed the dispatch to advance the Constitutional Amendment (PEC) that aims to end the 6x1 work schedule in Brazil. The Lula administration is working to have the proposal voted on during the first week of September, viewing it as a key political priority. However, CCJ President Otto Alencar has expressed skepticism regarding the possibility of a vote during the upcoming concentrated legislative effort, citing the complexity of the matter and the fact that many senators are currently engaged in election campaigns.
In response to the legislative movement, labor unions and social movements have called for a national mobilization on August 30 to pressure lawmakers for the amendment's approval. The PEC 221/2019 specifically proposes reducing the maximum weekly working hours from 44 to 40, ensuring two paid days of rest per week. Along with the 6x1 proposal, Alcolumbre has also moved forward with dispatches for the Public Security PEC and a project regarding critical minerals.
