Starting in 2026, Brazilians who reach 60 years of age will be recognized as elderly under the Estatuto da Pessoa Idosa, giving them priority service in banks, hospitals, public offices and other venues. They become eligible for a free "Carteira da Pessoa Idosa" that guarantees two free seats per inter‑state bus, train or boat and, if those seats are occupied, at least a 50 % discount on the fare. The card is issued online through gov.br or at a local CRAS centre, is valid for two years and requires three conditions: age 60 or older, individual income of up to two minimum wages, and an active CadÚnico registration.
Additional rights that begin at age 60 include half‑price tickets for cultural and sporting events, reserved parking spaces, and preferential health care. Free urban public transport, however, remains reserved for those 65 and older, unless state or municipal rules provide earlier access.
