Brazil health insurance market reaches 53 million beneficiaries
The Brazilian supplementary health insurance market reached 53.164 million medical plan beneficiaries in August, according to data from the Agência Nacional de Saúde Suplementar (ANS). The market saw a net increase of 62,200 beneficiaries during the month, driven largely by the corporate segment.
Corporate collective plans remain the dominant force in the industry, accounting for 38.977 million beneficiaries. In comparison, individual or family plans reached 8.350 million, and collective plans by affiliation totaled 5.813 million. The dental insurance segment also showed significant growth, adding 377,000 new beneficiaries in August.
Financial analysts from institutions such as BTG Pactual and Itaú BBA note a trend toward market consolidation. Companies like Amil, Bradesco Saúde, and SulAmérica are gaining market share, particularly within the corporate sector. Conversely, Hapvida reported the largest decline in beneficiaries, losing approximately 40,000 lives in August.
