Brazil Health Minister visits Unicamp to inspect new cancer diagnostic technology
Brazilian Health Minister Alexandre Padilha visited the Hospital de Clínicas of the State University of Campinas (HC-Unicamp) to inspect new cancer diagnostic technology. The hospital has installed a SPECT/CT scanner, which is the first of its kind in a public hospital in Latin America.
With an investment exceeding R$ 8.6 million, the SPECT/CT equipment provides images with up to three times the resolution of conventional machines, allowing for more precise identification of tumors and metastases. The technology also enables exams to be performed up to four times faster than traditional methods, increasing daily patient capacity and reducing waiting times.
During the visit, Padilha also inspected the Women's Integral Health Care Center (CAISM), which received new bone densitometry equipment. Additional investments in the SUS (Unified Health System) include a new mammograph, a chemotherapy room, and two new radiotherapy machines to improve oncological care and treatment access.
