Brazil health research highlights syphilis, tuberculosis, and herbicide risks

Various academic research studies in Brazil have highlighted significant public health and environmental concerns. In the Baixada Santista region, an analysis of gestational and congenital syphilis shows an increase in cases over time, particularly among young women, suggesting failures in prenatal care and vertical transmission.

In the Cascavel metropolitan region, epidemiological data from 2015 to 2024 reveals a correlation between human and bovine tuberculosis notifications. The study notes that a lack of routine laboratory differentiation between Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis contributes to underreporting.

Additionally, experimental research on C57BL/6 mice has investigated the effects of chronic exposure to glyphosate-based herbicides. The study aims to evaluate potential myelotoxicity and hepatotoxicity resulting from long-term ingestion of commercial herbicide formulations.
