Brazil health sector: New mental health center and administrative investigations

Various regional health administration developments and investigations are occurring across Brazil. In Rio Branco, the municipal government has inaugurated the CAPS III Samaúma, a mental health center that now operates 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays. The facility offers expanded specialized care and includes overnight hospitality for patients requiring intensive monitoring without full hospitalization.

In Bahia, the Public Ministry is investigating the Vitória da Conquista Health Secretariat following allegations of transphobia. The investigation focuses on a potential denial of access to the Treatment Outside the Domicile (TFD) program for a transgender patient receiving care through the National LGBT Integral Health Policy.

Additionally, in Santo Estêvão, an investigation has been launched by the Public Ministry and the Court of Accounts regarding the rental of a property used for a psychosocial care center (CAPS I). The complaint alleges that the property owner is a permanent nurse for the municipality, which would violate bidding laws prohibiting public agents from contracting directly or indirectly with the administration they serve.
