Brazil: High concern for aging and health lacks practical planning

Recent studies in Brazil reveal a significant gap between public concern regarding health and aging and actual financial or practical preparation. According to research by FenaPrevi and Datafolha, while 72% of Brazilians worry about lacking medical care during illness and 70% fear the death of a family member, only a small fraction—28% and 22% respectively—have taken proactive measures to prepare for these events.

This disconnect is mirrored in the growing interest in longevity. Data from the Personal Longevity Indicator (ILP) shows that 97% of the population expresses interest in the topic, yet only 4% report having consistently planned for aging. This rising interest has fueled a massive increase in the publishing market; annual non-fiction releases regarding aging and longevity have grown from approximately four titles in the late 2000s to 67 in 2025, a 17-fold increase.

Demographic trends suggest that interest in longevity is not limited to the elderly. Younger generations are increasingly seeking preventive solutions, contributing to a surge in digital searches and a broader cultural focus on healthy aging.
