Brazil highway upgrades ease traffic on BR-040 and BR-101

Via Cristais, the concessionaire of the BR-040 corridor between Belo Horizonte and Cristalina, opened a temporary detour at km 429 in Paraopeba, Minas Gerais, to continue installing a moving weigh‑in‑motion (HS‑WIM) system. The equipment will allow 24‑hour monitoring of vehicle weights without stopping traffic, helping to prevent overweight loads and protect the road. The detour uses the lane nearest the road edge for one‑way traffic, while the opposite lane remains open.

In Santa Catarina, work began on a strategic access reconfiguration of the BR‑101 in Balneário Camboriú. The project reverses the entry and exit ramps on Avenida Marginal Leste to improve flow and safety, with traffic running on a single lane during construction. The three‑month, R$2.64 million effort includes road, drainage and signage upgrades and aims to cut traffic on nearby avenues by about 30%, especially during peak hours.
