Brazil holds consultation for sustainable goods under Mercosul-EU agreement

The Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (Mdic) is conducting a public consultation to identify sustainable products and productive chains within Mercosul. The initiative aims to determine which items can receive preferential or additional commercial benefits under the Mercosul-European Union Free Trade Agreement promulgated in March.

The Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) is seeking suggestions for products that contribute to the conservation, recovery, and sustainable management of forests and other vulnerable ecosystems. The consultation is open to various sectors, including the productive sector, universities, research institutions, civil society organizations, and representatives of productive chains.

Selected products may gain preferential access to the European Union market and other commercial promotion incentives. The process seeks to highlight Brazilian sociobiodiversity and chains that successfully link economic production with environmental conservation. Contributions must be submitted via the Brasil Participativo platform by September 2, 2026.
