Brazil hosts international space sustainability summit in Brasília
The 8th Space Sustainability Summit was held in Brasília, marking the first time such an event has taken place in Latin America. The summit brought together Brazilian and foreign authorities, space agency representatives, and specialists to discuss the challenges and opportunities of sustainable space use, including the growing issue of space debris.
During the event, Federal Deputy Pedro Lucas Fernandes highlighted the importance of the General Law of Space Activities, which he authored. The legislation aims to organize and regulate space activities in Brazil, providing legal certainty and creating more favorable conditions for investments. The deputy noted that the space sector offers significant economic, scientific, and technological development prospects, particularly for Maranhão, which houses the Alcântara Launch Center.
