Dez Milhas Garoto race draws 20,000 participants, adds World Athletics label and training tips
The 35th edition of the Dez Milhas Garoto, a 16.1 km road race between Vitória and Vila Velha, is set for 27 September. Organised by Yescom, the event sold out all 20,000 slots in just 14 hours and received World Athletics certification, marking its first inclusion on the global calendar. In addition to the main race, the programme features a children’s “Corrida Garotada” and a pet “Cachorrida”, and offers a R$10,000 bonus for any athlete who breaks the current course record.
Trainer Alê Junqueira, creator of the “Eu Sou Dessas que Correm” programme, issued a detailed preparation guide for amateur runners. She advises a gradual increase in weekly mileage from the 90‑day mark, focused hill work on the “Terceira Ponte” section, strength sessions at home or in the gym, and attention to winter‑time hydration and nutrition to avoid injuries and maintain performance.
The race is expected to boost local tourism and the economy of Espírito Santo while promoting health and community participation across Brazil.
