Brazil Federal Police launch national center to combat digital crimes against minors

The Brazilian Federal Police have officially commenced external operations for the National Center for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (CNCA). Established to comply with the Digital ECA legislation, the center serves as a centralized hub for receiving notifications of serious crimes against minors identified by digital platforms.

Operating through the NIDUS system, the CNCA will facilitate communication between technology companies and law enforcement. Digital platforms are required to register their services and report identified crimes to the center, which will then organize the information and direct it to the appropriate Federal or Civil Police units across Brazil's 26 states and the Federal District.

The center's reports will be shared with various institutions, including the Public Prosecutor's Office, Public Defenders, and the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD). While the CNCA is tasked with validating and triaging notifications, it does not have the authority to monitor users or access private data directly.
