Brazil implements new quality standards for private healthcare

Brazil has implemented Law No. 15.524/2026, establishing a national strategy to control and evaluate the quality of private healthcare services. The law mandates that hospitals, clinics, and other private establishments be assessed based on quality standards and qualification attributes defined by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa).

Key provisions include ensuring patient safety, the use of scientifically backed treatments, and maintaining sufficient staff and infrastructure to prevent harmful delays. The legislation also requires non-discriminatory care regardless of sex, religion, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status. To increase transparency, the law requires the periodic disclosure of evaluation results, allowing patients to review the quality of services. Establishments must comply with regulations set by both Anvisa and the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS).
