Brazil implements school-based domestic violence prevention programs

Educational initiatives aimed at preventing domestic violence are being implemented through school-based programs in Brazil.

In Cuiabá, the Espaço Caliandra participated in the ‘Jovens Multiplicadores no Combate à Violência Doméstica’ project. The initiative held a meeting for mothers of students at the Leônidas Antero de Matos Civic-Military School to promote awareness and social transformation. Public authorities, including Prosecutor Claire Vogel Dutra and State Secretary of Public Security Susane Tamanho, emphasized that education is fundamental to changing the consciousness of future generations and highlighted the need to monitor aggressors alongside protecting victims.

In Limeira, the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) conducted an activity for approximately 800 students aged 9 to 11. Part of the ‘Projeto Educar Limeira’, the program taught children about respect, family coexistence, and how to identify and report violence. Local officials noted that such educational actions complement classroom learning by helping children recognize incorrect situations and seek help from trusted adults.
