Brazil implements various policies to support people with autism
Various legislative and social initiatives are being implemented across Brazil to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
In Suzano, the municipal government has issued 1,191 Ciptea identification cards since 2022 to facilitate faster service and rights access for people with ASD. The cards are valid for five years and can be requested online or in person.
In Amazonas, Law No. 8.214/2026 has been established to encourage the professional inclusion of autistic youth through apprenticeship programs. Additionally, state deputy Mário César Filho has introduced programs such as CAIC-TEA for specialized therapy, Laudo Azul for neuropediatric diagnoses, and Juventude TEA for adolescent support.
At the national level, the Commission for the Defense of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities approved a proposal to regulate the presence of companions for autistic children and adolescents in hospitals and clinics. The project, which aligns with existing patient rights laws, mandates that companions follow sanitary protocols and maintain medical confidentiality while providing emotional support to patients.
