Brazil implements Zero Trust to curb deepfake attacks on live events
The use of AI‑generated deepfake audio and video has risen sharply, with fraud incidents in Brazil increasing 126% over the past two years, accounting for almost 39% of attacks in Latin America. In response, experts are promoting Zero Trust security models for hybrid and live‑streamed events. José de Souza Junior, a cyber‑security lawyer and director at Grupo RG Evento, says the approach assumes no person or device is trusted by default and calls for measures such as multi‑factor authentication, individual credentials, role‑based access, network segmentation, device validation, stream‑key protection, continuous monitoring and incident‑response plans.
The Brazilian Electoral Court (TSE) has already adopted a resolution that bans the publication or boosting of AI‑altered content in the 72 hours before and 24 hours after elections, reflecting growing institutional concerns. Market analysts project the global Zero Trust security market to exceed US$ 49 billion in 2026 and reach US$ 148.7 billion by 2034, underscoring the sector’s rapid expansion as organizations seek to safeguard against sophisticated digital fraud.
