Brazil inaugurates first Casa da Igualdade Racial in Minas Gerais, extends services to Pelotas

On Tuesday the 30th, Brazil opened its first Casa da Igualdade Racial in Itabira, Minas Gerais, marking the state’s inaugural centre for racial equality. The ceremony was led by Minister of Racial Equality Rachel Barros and attended by local officials, including Mayor Marco Antônio Lage. The new facility will provide psychological, social and legal assistance to victims of discrimination, alongside educational and cultural programmes aimed at strengthening Afro‑Brazilian heritage.

In Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, the Casa da Igualdade Racial is also operating as a community hub. It offers space for meetings, lectures, workshops and exhibitions related to racial equality. Organisations can book the venue by emailing [email protected] at least a week in advance. The centre runs weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Rua Tiradentes, 2963, in the city centre.
