Brazil increases funding for innovation and research through Finep and FAPESP

Finep, an agency linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, has approved an additional R$ 1.95 billion to expand credit limits for innovation projects via the Inovacred program. This measure aims to increase the potential volume of contracts to R$ 6.8 billion by 2026. The funding is distributed geographically, with 70% allocated to the South and Southeast regions and 30% to the North, Northeast, and Central-West. The program focuses on providing credit to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises for equipment purchases, technological development, and process modernization.

Separately, FAPESP reported a 30% increase in research support disbursements in 2025 compared to the previous year. The foundation supported 32,600 projects, with investments totaling R$ 570 million, reaching R$ 1.5 billion when including counterpart funds. A significant portion of this effort involves Science Centers for Development (CCDs), which aim to apply scientific research to public policy issues such as public safety, energy transition, and agriculture. FAPESP also supported 462 projects under its Public Policy Research Program in partnership with various government entities.
