Brazil IPCA-15 inflation slows to 0.32% in October

Brazil's official inflation precursor, the IPCA-15, rose by 0.32% in October, a significant deceleration from the 0.70% recorded in September. Data released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) shows that the 12-month accumulated inflation reached 4.62%, remaining above the government's upper tolerance limit of 4.5%.

The Food and Beverages group was a primary driver of price pressure, rising 0.88% and contributing 0.19 percentage points to the index. Within this category, food at home increased by 1.01%. Notable price hikes included tomatoes (24.54%), onions (13.63%), potatoes (10.96%), and rice (5.80%). Conversely, prices for carrots (-10.67%), fruits (-1.37%), and ground coffee (-1.16%) declined.

In the Transport sector, fuel prices rose by 1.2%, with diesel increasing by 3.70%, ethanol by 2.73%, and gasoline by 0.92%. However, airfares fell by 9.24%, acting as a major downward pressure on the index. The Housing group was the only sector to record a decrease (-0.10%), largely due to a 0.89% drop in residential electricity costs following the implementation of the green tariff flag.
