Brazil infrastructure projects aim to reduce travel times

Two major infrastructure projects in Brazil are being developed to significantly reduce travel times in their respective regions.

In São Paulo, a R$ 6.8 billion immersed tunnel is planned to connect Santos and Guarujá. The 1.5-kilometer structure, which includes an 870-meter section submerged beneath the Port of Santos channel, is expected to reduce travel times from nearly an hour to approximately five minutes. The project, managed by concessionaire TSG, features six vehicle lanes, pedestrian and cyclist paths, and infrastructure adaptable for rail transport. Construction is slated to begin in 2027, with an estimated opening in 2031.

In Santa Catarina, a R$ 60 million bridge project over the Parati River aims to connect Vila Porto Alegre to the center of Araquari. The 488-meter bridge is designed to cut travel times from 40 minutes to seven minutes. While the Brazilian Navy has authorized the project, the municipality of Araquari is currently working with the state government to formalize the necessary agreements before the bidding process can begin.
