Brazil initiatives combat domestic violence through training and corporate support

In Cocal do Sul, Brazil, a free self-defense course has been launched to help women escape dangerous situations. The program, held at Sesc Comunidade Cocal do Sul, teaches participants how to recognize risks, escape physical aggression, and call for help. Lieutenant Colonel Eduardo Moreno Persson of the 29th PM Battalion noted that the primary focus is on escape rather than confrontation.

Complementing local efforts, the Rede Santa Catarina institution is expanding its Florescer Program to combat domestic violence within the corporate sector. After two years and over 180 services provided, the program is extending support to the families of employees. The initiative utilizes trained ‘Social Angels’ to provide non-judgmental listening, psychological support, and legal guidance, while also training leadership to better identify and direct victims to appropriate resources.
