Brazil advances inclusion for visually impaired through training and technology

Various initiatives in Brazil are focusing on the inclusion and professional development of people with visual impairments. The Fundação Dorina Nowill para Cegos is working to increase employability through professional qualification, vocational guidance, and corporate training to reduce attitudinal barriers in the workplace.

In the education sector, a student in Nova Iguaçu, Miguel Macieira, has regained autonomy through the use of assistive technology. Equipped with the Dosvox system, which utilizes voice synthesis, he is able to navigate computers, learn Braille, and participate fully in classroom activities at a municipal school.

Additionally, the State of São Paulo has opened 1,628 free vocational training spots through the Qualifica SP program. These courses cover high-demand areas such as logistics, administration, and IT to support economic development and professional reintegration.
