Brazil's INSS warns on retirement type errors, announces 10,000‑job contest and expands remote benefit services
The Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social (INSS) issued an alert highlighting the risk of choosing the wrong retirement modality. Selecting the permanent incapacity pension instead of the Pessoa com Deficiência (PcD) option can lower monthly payments permanently, while PcD benefits are more generous and exempt from the recent pension‑reform penalties.
The agency has submitted a request to the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI) for authorization of a public competition with up to 10,000 vacancies, mainly for Technical Social Security positions, with starting salaries above R$7,500. Experts advise candidates to begin preparation early.
A new force‑task, part of the "INSS em Ação" program, deployed itinerant teams to remote municipalities such as Jordão in Acre, providing on‑site processing of benefits, medical examinations and guidance, aiming to reduce queues for isolated populations.
Since 31 July 2024, Lemeprev’s professional management must comply with Criterion 10 of CADPREV, requiring certified directors and council members for municipal pension funds.
The INSS also outlined how beneficiaries can appeal a denied temporary incapacity benefit, offering administrative revision, a request to the Council of Resources, or recourse to Federal Court.
In addition, the institute confirmed that permanent retirement is available for workers with severe, irreversible illnesses, as defined in article 151 of Law 8.213/1991.
Finally, the INSS released a fraud alert stating that all official information is posted only on its verified channels and that it never requests personal or banking data via WhatsApp, other messaging apps, or phone calls; such requests are scams.
