Bolsonaro film 'Dark Horse' financing under federal investigation

Brazil's Federal Police and the Supreme Court are probing the financing of "Dark Horse," a biographical film about former President Jair Bolsonaro. The production cost about US$13.4 million (roughly R$75 million). A private forensic report says the money came from the U.S.-based Havengate Development Fund, which is linked to allies of Eduardo Bolsonaro. Approximately US$10.6 million (around R$61 million) was provided by banker Daniel Vorcaro at the request of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. Investigators are also examining whether public contracts between the São Paulo municipality and the Instituto Conhecer Brasil were diverted to fund the movie and whether any of the funds were used for personal trips of Eduardo Bolsonaro abroad. The film’s producer, Karina Ferreira Gama of Go Up Entertainment, maintains that no public resources or tax incentives were used and is considering postponing the release until after the 2026 elections to avoid electoral controversy. The case has drawn political comment, with opposition figures warning that the scandal could damage the Bolsonaro family's electoral prospects.
