Anvisa seizes falsified cancer drug Phesgo and Dysport batches
The Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has ordered the seizure of falsified batches of the breast cancer medication Phesgo (lot B5011B05) and three batches of the botulinum toxin Dysport (lots P08191, P08192, and P22368). Manufacturers Roche and Beaufour Ipsen Farmacêutica reported that these specific lots do not match original product characteristics.
Separately, Brazilian authorities are investigating a criminal network involving doctors, lawyers, and public servants suspected of fraud in cancer medication procurement. The investigation, which includes Operation Placebo, has identified suspicious activity across at least four states: Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Ceará. In one instance, businessman Lisandro Henriques Hermes was arrested after police discovered numerous boxes of medication showing signs of tampering.
Additionally, Anvisa has suspended the online advertising of compounded medicines from Queen Pharma Aesthetic and prohibited the unauthorized sale of cannabis-based products on social media.
