Brazil invests over R$300 million in new hospitals in Mafra and Várzea Grande

The state of Santa Catarina completed a new 11‑storey tower at Hospital São Vicente de Paulo in Mafra, adding 140 beds, a 12‑room surgical suite (including two robotic‑surgery rooms), a helipad and modern intensive‑care facilities. The project, funded with more than R$99 million from the state government and R$11 million from the hospital itself, was finished in 2½ years and is expected to handle about 22,000 clinical and surgical admissions and 20,000 surgeries annually for a population of roughly 971,000 across 39 municipalities.

In Mato Grosso, Governor Otaviano Pivetta announced a new municipal hospital and a Politec forensic laboratory in Várzea Grande, near the Marechal Rondon Airport. The plan allocates over R$200 million for the hospital’s construction and R$8.5 million for the Politec headquarters. The facility will provide emergency and trauma care, intensive‑care units, surgical and imaging services, and will serve the Baixada Cuiabana region. A public tender for the construction contract is slated for the end of August, with local officials praising the project’s expected impact on urgent‑care capacity.
