Brazil Invited by US for July Meeting on ‘Extremist Left’ Terrorism

The United States, through Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has invited Brazil and more than 60 other nations to a ministerial meeting in Washington on 16 July. The summit, organized by the Trump administration, will focus on what officials call the “resurgence of transnational extremist‑left terrorism,” a threat the U.S. ties to groups such as Antifa. The invitation was confirmed by both the U.S. Department of State and Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Brazil’s foreign minister, Mauro Vieira, is weighing whether to attend amid strained bilateral relations after the United States classified Brazil’s criminal factions PCC and CV as foreign terrorist organizations and Brazil warned of a possible U.S. military presence on Brazilian soil. The meeting is expected to address intelligence sharing and coordinated counter‑terrorism measures. While many countries are expected to send representatives, Brazil has not yet announced a decision, and officials indicate the invitation may be declined due to diplomatic tensions.
