Brazil judicial courts host mass community wedding ceremonies

Community wedding initiatives organized by judicial bodies have recently taken place in different Brazilian regions, providing free legal marriage ceremonies for couples facing financial barriers.

In Luís Eduardo Magalhães, the Bahia State Court of Justice (TJBA), through its Center for Consensual Conflict Resolution and Citizenship (CEJUSC), held the 7th edition of the ‘Enfim Casados’ event. The ceremony formalized the unions of 59 couples. Since its inception in 2021, the program has assisted over 260 couples by removing the costs associated with legalizing marriages.

In Rio de Janeiro, the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice organized a mass wedding at the Metropolitan Cathedral of São Sebastião, involving 100 couples. The event allowed various individuals, including long-term partners and couples who met via dating apps, to officialize their relationships without the financial burden typically required for such ceremonies.
