Brazil keeps electricity tariff flag yellow for July 2026, raising consumer bills

The Brazilian National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) confirmed that the tariff flag will remain yellow throughout July 2026. The yellow flag adds an extra charge of R$ 1.885 per 100 kWh consumed, a rate that has been in effect since April.

The agency explained that the flag reflects less favorable generation conditions during the dry season, when hydro‑electric reservoir levels fall and more expensive thermal power plants must be used. The tariff‑flag system signals real‑time electricity costs to consumers, helping them understand bill variations and encouraging more efficient energy use.
